OK 63.85 is a basic coated niobium-stabilised 18Cr12Ni2.8Mo electrode for welding steels of similar composition. It has very good resistance against intergranular corrosion. The rather high ferrite content in combination with the basic coating provides a good hot cracking resistance. It has the best hot cracking resistance of the E318 type electrodes. Ferrite may transform to brittle phases at elevated temperatures. To avoid excessive embrittlement of the welds the maximum working temperature is limited to 400°C.
